The Campo de Cielo Meteorite struck the Earth about 4,000 to 5,000 years ago in Northwest Argentina.  Campo de Cielo translates to Field of the Heavens, or the Sky.  The impact site is about 20 square miles with almost a quarter million pounds of Meteoric Iron, which is Nickel-Iron metal Alloy.  The meteorite was discovered by European colonists in 1576, but the native people had already been using the alloy in various tools for centuries.
